BEFORE YOU GO
Visiting Sazan Island: hours, rules and what to bring
Sazan is open to day visitors, but on terms set by the military and by the season. This page gives the 2026 hours and costs, what to pack, who the trip suits and what happens when the sea is too rough.
Is Sazan open to visitors?
Yes. Sazan has been open to the public since July 2015, when the National Coastline Agency opened the former military island. Visits are still supervised: the docking pier is under Albanian military supervision, and visitors stay in the permitted areas near the landing and follow the crew.
Hours and costs in the 2026 season
For 2026 Triton lists the island's hours as 08:00 to 19:00, with arrival and departure times strictly enforced. Landing is free; what costs money is the beach, which an investor runs for the 2026 season. These arrangements belong to that season and may change in later years.
- Pier hours: 08:00–19:00 (2026 season).
- Entry to the island: free.
- Sunbeds, umbrellas, food and drinks on Sazan: for sale.
- Beach restaurants on this tour: cash only.
What to bring
Triton's list for this tour is short: sunscreen, cash and flip-flops. The cash is for sunbeds, umbrellas, food and drinks, which the ticket does not cover, and the flip-flops are for shores of pebbles and stones, where water shoes also help against sharp rocks and sea urchins.
Who the trip suits
Triton rates the tour as easy, but it involves a speedboat ride, stepping ashore at a pier and walking on pebbles and stones. Triton's booking form takes adults aged 18 to 85 and children aged 4 to 17, and Triton says the trip is not suitable for the following groups.
- Pregnant women.
- People with mobility impairments.
- People with heart problems.
- Wheelchair users.
- People over 80: Triton lists them although its booking form accepts adults up to 85, so ask Triton before booking.
When the sea says no
The trip runs only in good weather. If Triton cancels because of poor conditions, you are offered another date or a full refund; if you cancel yourself, the booking is refunded in full up to 24 hours before departure. On the day, stops and timings can change with the sea.
Triton lists spring, summer and autumn as the season for Sazan. The National Coastline Agency describes a mild Mediterranean climate on the island: an average of 23.4 °C in July and 10 °C in January, about 16.2 °C over the year, and around 715 mm of rain.
Inside a national marine park
The sea around Sazan is part of the Karaburun-Sazan National Marine Park, declared in 2010. Albania's National Tourism Agency names the activities it suits: diving, coastal exploration, wildlife observation and sailing without motors, always in line with nature conservation. For a short visit, that means leaving as little trace as possible.
Take your litter back to the boat, leave stones, shells and plants where they are, and keep your distance from any wildlife you meet in the water.
